This was such a great ride last year. I know it will be even bigger and better this year. I'm glad they've added a new route - the Middle Sister sounds fun.
I've heard they have even more fun girly surprises this year, I can't wait to ride!!
Just thought I'd share what an incredible time I had today at Cycle the Wave. I figured I would be riding the 62 miles alone as I don't mind doing things like that by myself, however after about 5 miles into it I caught up to 3 ladies who were leading the pack and one of them asked if I wanted to join them. She quickly introduced me to the other 2 and off we went. About 10 miles later another woman caught up to us and joined our "pack". It was incredible, the rest of the way we were all chatting and supporting one another. We all had something in common - we were all strong, competitive riders! If one of us fell a little behind, the rest waited, it was amazing. With about 10 miles left, we stopped and discussed the game plan for the remaining ride. The plan was simple, we were all going to cross the finish line TOGETHER! With 1/4 mile remaining 2 of us were discussing how we had goosebumps because we were almost there and doing it together. So what started out as a just "training" ride, figuring I would be riding 4 hours alone, turned into something amazing - a group of woman supporting and pushing each other.
It was so inspiring to see women supporting women. Riding together & raising money to fight domestic violence gave me a real sense of community. Big thanks to all the volunteers who worked so hard to pull off this worthwhile event.
Wow!!!! What a fun, well organized event! I do a lot of big co-ed bike events, but Cycle the WAVE is in a league of it's own. I love how nice and friendly everyone is. The rests stops were fantastic, especially the brownies at rest stop #3! I am now hooked on Dave's bread. The burritos and chocolate at the end of 62 miles was exactly what I needed! The firemen and cheerleaders were a great touch. In fact a couple of the single girls in my group would like telephone numbers for the firemen...
Cycle the Wave was a great event! It was so fun to ride with all women. The support at the rest stops was wonderful. I loved the sandwiches (I fell in love with Dave's bread last year at the WAVE & buy it at home now), cookies, candy, fruit, ect. I appreciated the bike expert at the rest stop (especially at the second stop where I had my gear cable come loose & he fixed it quickly & with a smile). It was fun to see the flowers in the port-a-potties - such a nice touch. Just a few suggestions for the middle sister ride: it would be nice to have someone standing at the bottom of Kamber Road when you have to make that right hand turn & head up the hill. This person could alert cars & also wave riders on if there is no cars so we can not lose our momentum. Also, the second rest stop ran out of Gatoraide & Luna products. We could have really used them there. Lastly, after passing Cedar Grove Compost it was very easy to miss that left hand turn (we made it but saw others ahead of us miss it). Perhaps a sandwich board at that spot would be helpful.
Loved the drummers at the tunnel, the firemen with Hot Tamales, cheerleaders, and all the men that were support people. The goodie bags at the end were fabulous. Will be wearing my T-shirt very soon. Thanks to all that planned & coordinated this event. Can't wait for next year.
Incredible event - the women are amazing from the Guild, EDVP and Lakemont Ladies Cycling Club! Not to mention all the other volunteers and many sponsors that made this event so successful! I am so proud to be a part of such a great cause and amongst so many incredible people dedicated to ending domestic violence everywhere! And the 600+ riders were a blast to cheer - you GO GIRLS!!!
